Sticky Bandits Thunder Rail Overview
Sticky Bandits Thunder Rail is the sixth outing in Quickspin's long-running Sticky Bandits series, and this time the lads have gone and done something proper different. You get a 5x4 grid that can stretch all the way out to 7x7, a Wild West train heist theme with Colt and Ezra chasing the Blackwood Gang's cargo, and a bonus round that swaps the usual free spins for a Hold and Win style mini-game.
First impressions? Not bad at all. The base game is stuffed with sticky wilds, and the Train Heist Bonus Game adds a fresh twist I wasn't expecting from this series. It looks decent, plays smooth, and feels like a proper effort rather than a lazy sequel.

How the Base Game Works
Base game runs on a 5x4 grid with 26 ways to win. Land any wild and it sticks, fires off its modifier, then hands you a respin. If another wild drops in, the chain keeps going. Two of the wilds actually grow the grid, adding rows or columns until you're staring at a 7x7 monster with 53 ways to win.
Wild Symbols Breakdown
Eight different wilds live in the base game, nine if you switch on the Ante Bet. You've got Tall Wild filling a reel, Diagonal Wild stretching across, Big Wild going 2x2, Random Wild scattering 2 to 4 wilds, Multiplier Wild packing x2 up to x100, Cash Wild carrying 1x to 100x prizes, plus Row Expansion Wild and Column Expansion Wild growing the grid.
Flick the Extra Bet on and the Mystery Wild joins the party, turning all its instances into one randomly chosen wild type. Fair play to Quickspin, that's a lot of variety. Individually none of them will blow your socks off, but having eight or nine of them landing and stacking keeps the base game ticking over nicely.

Train Heist Bonus Game
Land 3, 4 or 5 scatters and you're into the Train Heist Bonus Game on a 7x7 grid. More scatters means bigger starting cash values (1x, 3x or 5x) and more premium symbols around the corners. You get 3 lives, and each new symbol that lands resets the tally. A life only drops when a Guard shows up and the Bandit has to shoot him.
Here's the clever bit. Symbols only pay out once the wandering Bandit walks over to them horizontally or vertically. Special symbols like Grabber, Doubler, Booster and Re-Activator crank up the values when the Bandit reaches them. If three Guards land back to back, the Bandit runs out of bullets and it's game over.
Honest take: the pacing is a bit slow compared to standard free spins, and not everyone will love watching the little fella plod about. But it's genuinely different, and that's worth something in a market flooded with cascading lookalikes.
Bonus Buy Options
RTP, Volatility and Max Win
Default RTP sits at 96.07%, bumping up to 96.33% with Extra Bet on. There are lower variants (94.19%, 92.07% and 84.21%) knocking about depending on your operator, so keep an eye out. Volatility is a full 5 out of 5 high, hit frequency is 21.70%, and max win is 10,000x your stake. Base game alone caps at 1,000x, so the big money lives in the bonus.
Bet range runs from 0.10 to 100 quid per spin. Fair warning: Quickspin reckons the max win lands once every 3,050,541 spins on average. Dry spells are very real here.
Feature Buy Options
If you can't be bothered waiting, there are three buy options. Pay 5x your bet for Blackwood Gang, which guarantees a wild feature spin. Cough up 60x for the standard Train Heist with 3 to 5 scatters. Or splash 155x for Train Heist Fully Loaded, which lands you straight into the bonus with all 5 scatters for the best starting conditions.
