Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead: Slot Overview

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead is a Cluster Pays grid slot from Play'n GO, released on 24 April 2025 as the 17th entry in the Wilde series. Symbols drop onto a 5x5 matrix where clusters of 4+ matching icons connected horizontally or vertically form wins. Winning symbols vanish, and new ones cascade down to fill gaps.

From a math perspective, the numbers tell you this is a medium-volatility game with a default RTP of 96.21% and a 5,000x max win. Bets range from 0.10 to 100 per spin. Five RTP configurations exist (84.2%, 87.2%, 91.2%, 94.2%, 96.21%), and Play'n GO does not disclose which version any given operator runs. That lack of transparency is a recurring frustration with this studio's releases.

Symbols and Paytable

Four canopic jars with falcon, baboon, human, and wolf heads make up the low-pay tier. Clusters of 4 start at just x0.1 bet, scaling to x3 through x6 for clusters of 10+. Four high-pay symbols represent a Pharaoh, Anubis, Ankh, and a Scarab/Ra icon. A cluster of 10+ Pharaoh symbols pays 100x bet; Anubis pays 40x, Scarab 30x, and Ankh 25x.

Looking at the paytable structure, the gap between low and high symbols is enormous. Canopic jars at 10+ cluster size max out at 3x to 6x, while premiums reach 25x to 100x. This makes the Judgment Ritual effect, which upgrades jars into statues, a critical value driver. Without that transformation, base game clusters rarely produce meaningful returns on their own.

Wild, Multiplier

Wild Types and Multipliers

Three wild variants exist in this slot. Altar Wilds substitute for all pay symbols and can trigger Ritual effects. Multiplier Wilds, depicted as Rich Wilde himself, carry x2, x3, x4, or x5 in the base game. During the Banishment Free Spin, those values jump to x2, x3, x5, or x10. Only the highest multiplier applies when multiple Multiplier Wilds share a cluster.

Ammit the Devourer Wild is a 2x2 symbol exclusive to the bonus round. It walks three times across the grid, contributing to any cluster it touches. Here is where the maths gets interesting: when Ammit and a Multiplier Wild appear in the same cluster, their values multiply rather than defaulting to the highest. A x10 Multiplier Wild paired with Ammit's own value creates the strongest payouts in the game.

I should note that base game multiplier ceilings are conservative. A x5 cap on a medium-volatility slot with cluster pays means individual hit values stay modest. The real EV sits in the bonus round where x10 multipliers and Ammit multiplication combine.

Bonus Buy Options

Bonus Buy Banishment Free Spin
Banishment Free Spin
A single free spin triggered at 48 Ritual charges. Comes with 3 guaranteed Ritual effects, overchargeable to 7. Includes 12 regular and 6 special All-Seeing Eyes; opening all regular eyes summons Ammit the Devourer Wild.
Bonus Buy Ritual Meter
Ritual Meter
A four-tier charge meter filled by winning symbols. Protection at 8 charges awards 2-4 Altar Wilds. Devour at 16 charges adds wilds plus symbol destruction. Judgment at 30 charges upgrades low-pay symbols to high-pay. Banishment at 48 charges triggers the free spin.
Bonus Buy All-Seeing Eyes
All-Seeing Eyes
Hidden eye icons beneath symbols that open when a winning cluster lands on their position, awarding 2-4 Altar Wilds. During the Banishment Free Spin, 12 regular and 6 special eyes appear; special eyes add x2, x3, or x4 multipliers to Ammit.

Ritual Meter and Banishment Free Spin

Every winning symbol charges the Ritual meter on the left side of the grid. Four thresholds exist. Protection at 8 charges awards 2 to 4 Altar Wilds. Devour at 16 charges does the same but also destroys symbols at specific diagonal and vertical distances when those wilds win. Judgment at 30 charges upgrades a canopic jar into a high-pay statue. Banishment at 48 charges triggers the free spin.

Reaching 48 charges in a single spin sequence demands sustained cascades, which is no small ask. The Banishment Free Spin is a single spin loaded with 3 guaranteed Ritual effects. Overcharging the meter beyond 48 awards one extra effect per 4 additional winning symbols, capping at 7 total. A random Ritual effect fires each time cascades end without a win. Meanwhile, 12 regular and 6 special All-Seeing Eyes appear beneath the grid. Opening all regular eyes summons Ammit; activating 4, 5, or 6 special eyes attaches x2, x3, or x4 multipliers to it.

💬 What Players Say
Players appreciate the layered mechanics and active base game but note the Egyptian theme feels recycled and the single free spin can feel anticlimactic. Based on 6 reviews.
Ryan Cole’s Verdict

Verdict

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead recycles the Cluster Pays cascading framework from Rich Wilde and the Tome of Insanity and wraps it in Book of Dead visuals. Mechanically, the upgrades are incremental: higher multiplier wilds, a 5,000x cap versus the older 2,000x, and the Ammit multiplication mechanic. Not everyone will find the Egyptian reskin compelling when the Lovecraft-themed predecessor had far more visual personality.

From a math perspective, the single free spin design concentrates all bonus EV into one compressed event. That is either thrilling or frustrating depending on your tolerance. The base game loop of charging the Ritual meter works well and stays engaging, but reaching 48 charges organically requires patience. No bonus buy option exists, as Play'n GO avoids that feature across their catalogue. For players who enjoyed the Tome of Madness/Insanity formula, this is a polished iteration. For everyone else, the 5,000x ceiling and recycled theme may not be enough to stand out in a crowded market.

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead FAQ
How does the Ritual meter trigger the Banishment Free Spin?
Every symbol involved in a winning cluster or feature effect adds a charge to the Ritual meter. You need 48 charges within a single spin sequence, including cascades, to trigger the Banishment Free Spin. Partial thresholds at 8, 16, and 30 charges award intermediate Ritual effects along the way.
What happens when Ammit the Devourer Wild meets a Multiplier Wild?
Their multiplier values are multiplied together rather than using only the highest. For example, a x10 Multiplier Wild combined with Ammit in the same cluster produces a much larger payout than either wild alone. This interaction only occurs during the Banishment Free Spin.
How many Ritual effects can you get in the Banishment Free Spin?
You start with 3 guaranteed Ritual effects. If the meter is overcharged beyond 48 symbols, every 4 extra winning symbols add one more effect, up to a maximum of 7. Each effect fires when cascades end without producing a new win.
Does this slot have a bonus buy option?
No. Play'n GO does not include bonus buy functionality in any of their games. The only way to reach the Banishment Free Spin is by filling the Ritual meter to 48 charges through natural gameplay.
How does Tome of Dead differ from Rich Wilde and the Tome of Insanity?
Both share the 5x5 cluster-pays cascading grid, All-Seeing Eyes, a charge meter, and a single-spin bonus. Tome of Dead adds higher multiplier values (up to x10 vs x5), the Ammit 2x2 walking wild with multiplier multiplication, and a Judgment effect that upgrades low-pay symbols. Max win also increased from 2,000x to 5,000x. Visually, it swaps the Lovecraft theme for Ancient Egypt.
