Wilds land on reels 2, 3 and 4, each with a random x1, x2, x3 or x4 multiplier. If more than one wild helps make the same win, those multipliers multiply together up to x64. It is easy enough to grasp, and that x64 ceiling is one of the big reasons the slot has more bite than the earlier game.

Free spins trigger with 3, 4 or 5 owl scatters, but you always get 5 free spins. During the feature, wilds turn sticky and gain +1 multiplier on each following spin until they reach x4, then they drop off. Scatters do not appear in free spins, so there is no re-trigger.

Once the 5 free spins are done, the round can keep going with respins if any sticky wild is still on the reels. That is a decent touch and can squeeze out extra wins right at the end. Fair enough, though only starting with five spins does feel a bit stingy.

Athena Ascending is decent if you want a relaxed slot with clear features and a bit of upside. I liked the clean Greek look, the vocal soundtrack does help the mood, and the bonus round is where the fun is. Sticky multiplier wilds that climb to x4 can make those sessions feel lively once the scatters finally show up.

Still, I am not entirely sold on it as a must-play sequel. The base game can feel a bit empty many times, and not everyone will enjoy only getting 5 free spins to start with. For me, it is worth a go if you fancy high-volatility play with simple rules, but I would not expect loads of surprises.
