Divine Fortune Black: Slot Overview

Divine Fortune Black is the third entry in NetEnt's long-running Divine Fortune series, following the original and the Megaways version. Built on a 5x3 grid with 20 paylines, it keeps the ancient Greek mythology vibe but wraps everything in a pitch-black, minimalist look. High volatility, a 20,000x max win, and two separate free spins modes are the headline acts here.

I'll be honest, when I first loaded it up, my reaction was "why is everything so dark?" No golden temples, no piles of coins. Just black. After a few minutes though, it grew on me a bit. The gold-framed reels pop against the darkness, and the soundtrack is properly atmospheric. Still, some people will find the base game visually bare compared to the original.

Symbols and Paytable

Lower-paying symbols are Q, K, and A, worth between 1x and 1.5x your bet for five of a kind. Higher payers include the eagle, bull, lion, and Medusa, ranging from 2x to 5x for a full line. Medusa tops the lot. Nothing spectacular on paper, but the real money comes from the bonus features and jackpots rather than base game line hits.

Pegasus is the Wild, landing on reels 2, 3, and 4 during the main game and Divine Spins. It subs for everything except Scatters, Cash Prizes, and Jackpots. The Zeus lightning bolt is your Scatter, and you need three or more to trigger a choice between the two bonus rounds. Fortune Collector symbols sit on reels 1 and 5 and hoover up any cash or jackpot values visible on the grid.

Bonus Features and Free Spins

Land three or more Scatters and you pick between Divine Spins or Fortune Spins. Divine Spins give you 5, 8, or 12 free spins depending on how many Scatters triggered them. Wilds, Cash Prizes, and Jackpots expand to fill the reel and trigger respins, shifting down one row each time. The free spins counter pauses during respins, which is a nice touch.

Fortune Spins is the Hold and Win mode. You start with 3 spins and only Cash Prizes, Jackpots, Collectors, and Mystery symbols can land. Every non-blank resets your counter back to 3. Fill entire rows and you bag extra jackpots on top. Three full rows gives you the Mega Jackpot at 2,500x. Mystery symbols reveal a random jackpot at the end of the round.

Then there is Elevate, which is the bonus buy section. Scatter Hunt at 1.5x your bet just boosts your odds of triggering free spins. Walking Collector at 10x changes how respins work. Or you can skip the wait entirely: Divine Spins for 50x and Fortune Spins for 100x. The Fortune Spins buy is pricey, no question, but that is where the bigger potential sits.

RTP, Volatility, and Max Win

RTP tops out at 96.08%, but be aware there are two lower versions at 94.14% and 88.18%. Always worth checking which one your casino runs. Volatility is high, so expect plenty of quiet stretches broken by bursts when the features land. Bets range from 0.20 to 24, which is fine for casual sessions but might feel tight if you like to push big stakes.

Max win is 20,000x your bet. At the top stake that works out to 480,000. Decent, though less than Divine Fortune Megaways offered. Hit frequency sits at around 31%, so roughly a third of spins return something. Not bad for high volatility, though most of those wins will be small. The proper paydays come from Fortune Spins and stacking up those jackpot collections.

Ryan Cole’s Verdict

Final Verdict

Divine Fortune Black is a decent third chapter in the series, even if it does not completely blow the doors off. I like having the choice between two bonus modes, and the Fortune Collector mechanic keeps things interesting during respins. The moody dark design is a bold shift. Some will love it; others might find it a bit lifeless compared to the original.

My main gripe is the base game can drag a bit. Without features popping, you are staring at a largely black screen waiting for something to happen. And the progressive jackpot from the first game is still gone, replaced by static prizes. Fair enough for what it is, but not the upgrade long-time fans might have hoped for. If you fancy a Greek mythology slot with solid features and you do not mind the high volatility, give it a spin. Just keep an eye on which RTP version you are playing.

Divine Fortune Black FAQ
What is the difference between Divine Spins and Fortune Spins?
Divine Spins is a traditional free spins mode with expanding symbols and respins. Fortune Spins is a Hold and Win round where symbols stick and your spin counter resets each time something lands. You pick which one you want after triggering three or more Scatters.
How much does the Fortune Spins bonus buy cost?
Fortune Spins costs 100x your bet through the Elevate feature. Divine Spins is cheaper at 50x. There is also a Scatter Hunt at 1.5x and a Walking Collector option at 10x.
How do the three fixed jackpots work in Divine Fortune Black?
Minor pays 25x your bet, Major pays 250x, and Mega pays 2,500x. Jackpot symbols land on reels 2 to 4 in the base game and on any reel during Fortune Spins. A Fortune Collector on screen scoops up all visible jackpot and cash values.
Can you earn extra jackpots by filling rows in Fortune Spins?
Yes. Filling 1 complete row awards the Minor Jackpot, 2 rows gives the Major, and filling all 3 rows grants the Mega Jackpot on top of whatever else you collected during the round.
How does Divine Fortune Black compare to the original Divine Fortune?
Same 5x3 grid and 20 paylines, but the progressive jackpot is gone, replaced by static jackpots. Volatility is higher, the look is much darker and more minimalist, and Fortune Spins is a new Hold and Win mode that was not in the original.
