Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel: Slot Overview

Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel from Quickspin keeps the series theme but shifts the maths back to a standard 5x3, 25-payline setup. I see it as a high-volatility sequel built around Tumbling Reels, pig-to-wild upgrades and protected pig symbols. The default RTP is 96.14%, bets run from 0.20 to 100, and the top win reaches x18173 on the highest RTP model.

From a math perspective, the numbers tell you this is a long-tail game. Average occurrence data puts 15x at 1 in 105 spins, 40x at 1 in 256, 70x at 1 in 484, 100x at 1 in 767, and the max win at 1 in 100 million spins. The base game can drag a bit, but the feature density keeps it active.

Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel Slot Information

11 regular symbols sit on the reels. Card ranks 10 to A are the low pays, with five of a kind worth x1 to x2. Axe and trowel are the medium symbols, both paying x5 for five. The blue, green and red pigs are the premium set, paying x15, x20 and x25 for five, with stronger four-of-a-kind values on the higher pigs.

Regular Wilds appear on all reels and substitute for standard pay symbols. Looking at the paytable structure, they are the best single symbol for direct line value, paying x3 for three, x15 for four and x40 for five. Piggy Wild versions keep the same payout as their original pig symbol, so their value is positional rather than premium.

Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel Slot Features

Tumbles drive the whole model. Winning symbols are removed, then the remaining icons drop and new ones fall in until no fresh win lands. Piggy Wilds unlock after 2, 4 and 6 tumbles in the same sequence. Sources differ on colour order in one place, but the consistent mapping is red at 2, green at 4 and blue at 6. These upgrades reset after the sequence ends.

Pigs of Steel adds retention. After 3 pig symbols are removed in winning tumbles, all pigs gain level 1 protection. After 6 removed pigs, they gain level 2. A protected pig loses one protection layer instead of disappearing, so from a math perspective this increases the chance of keeping premium or wild-converted pigs on the grid for extra cascades.

Big Bad Wolf: Pigs Of Steel Slot Bonus Features

3, 4 or 5 scatters trigger 10 free spins in the Bonus Game, Super Bonus Game or Ultra Bonus Game. Starting multipliers are x1, x2 and x3. Scatters are removed from the bonus, and Moon symbols replace them. Collecting 3 Moons gives +2 spins and doubles the multiplier, then 6 Moons gives another +2 and doubles it again.

Reset rules define the real value. In the Bonus Game, both Piggy Wild and Pigs of Steel meters reset between spins, so it plays closest to base with a multiplier. In the Super Bonus Game, only Pigs of Steel persists. In the Ultra Bonus Game, both meters persist, which is why it carries the best ceiling. I am not entirely sold on the 3-scatter bonus, it does not feel like a major jump.

Two Bonus Buy options are available. 60x buys a spin with 3 or more guaranteed scatters and a listed RTP of 96.41%. 240x buys a spin with 4 or more guaranteed scatters and RTP of 96.78%. The numbers tell you the 240x option has the better theoretical return, but it still does not guarantee the Ultra Bonus.

💬 What Players Say
Reviews are consistently positive about the sequel's flow, cascades and the way Pigs of Steel improves pig-wild retention. Common criticism targets the lower-value base bonus and the difficulty of reaching the Ultra Bonus Game. Based on 6 reviews.

Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel Slot Conclusion

18173x is not record territory, but the route to that ceiling is well built. I think the strongest part of the design is how cascades, Piggy Wilds and protection levels overlap. Each extra tumble can change both symbol quality and board persistence, which is why the game often feels more technical than a standard 25-line slot.

Compared with earlier entries, this version trades some raw top-end scale for a cleaner and more controlled loop. Not everyone will enjoy this volatility, and the Ultra Bonus remains elusive even with the 240x buy. Still, from a maths perspective, the better bonus EV sits with the higher buy, while the best organic value comes from four or five-scatter entries.

Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel FAQ
How do Piggy Wilds unlock in Big Bad Wolf: Pigs of Steel?
They unlock during a single tumble sequence. One pig type becomes wild after 2 tumbles, another after 4, and the last after 6, then all Piggy Wild progress resets when the sequence ends.
What does Pigs of Steel actually do to the pig symbols?
It gives all pig symbols protection after enough pigs are removed in winning tumbles. At 3 removed pigs they gain one layer, at 6 removed pigs they gain two, and each layer prevents removal once.
What is the difference between the three free spins modes?
All three award 10 free spins and use Moon symbols for extra spins and multiplier doubles. The difference is persistence, the standard bonus resets both meters, the Super keeps Pigs of Steel, and the Ultra keeps both Pigs of Steel and Piggy Wild.
Is there a bonus buy, and what do the prices mean?
Yes. Paying 60x buys a spin with 3 or more guaranteed scatters, while 240x buys a spin with 4 or more guaranteed scatters. The listed RTPs are 96.41% and 96.78% respectively.
What is the maximum win, and how rare is it?
The top win is x18173 at the 96.14% RTP setting. One source gives the average max-win occurrence as 1 in 100 million spins, which fits the high-volatility profile.
