Rich Wilde and the Tome of Insanity Slot Overview
Rich Wilde and the Tome of Insanity is a Cluster Pays grid slot from Play'n GO, set on a 5x5 grid with Cascading Reels. It follows on from the 2019 release Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness, leaning hard into H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos this time around. Rich Wilde stands beside the grid in a candle-lit chamber while you try to charge a Portal meter and summon the cosmic horror Yog-Sothoth.
I had a proper good time with the atmosphere here. Medium volatility at 6 out of 10 on Play'n GO's scale, an RTP of 96.2% at the top setting, and bets from 10p up to 100 quid. Max win sits at 5,000x your stake. Not the biggest ceiling out there, but the session felt balanced and I could actually see myself playing this on a quiet evening without burning through my balance in ten minutes.

Symbols and Paytable
Lower-value symbols are four coloured gems: green, blue, red, and purple. Landing a cluster of 10 or more pays between 3x and 6x your bet, so nothing massive from these. Premium symbols are the proper Lovecraftian stuff: a green potion, severed tentacle, pocket watch, and cyclopean skull. A cluster of 10+ skulls pays 100x your bet, which is where the money lives.
You also get three different wilds and each one does something different. Book Wilds substitute for pay symbols and trigger Portal effects. Rich Wilde himself appears as a Multiplier Wild carrying x2 to x5 in the base game and up to x10 in the bonus. Then there is the Yog-Sothoth Wild, a big 2x2 symbol that walks three times across the grid. When Rich Wilde and Yog-Sothoth multipliers combine, things get interesting fast.

Bonus Features and Damnation Free Spin
Everything revolves around charging the Portal meter with winning symbols. Hit 8 charges and you get 2 to 4 Book Wilds dropped on the grid. Reach 16 charges for more Book Wilds, and if those Book Wilds form wins they trigger Harvest, which destroys nearby symbols and kicks off a big cascade. At 30 charges, winning Book Wilds trigger Abomination instead, upgrading all low-value gems into premium symbols. Proper handy when it fires.
Get to 48 charges in a single cascade sequence and you unlock the Damnation Free Spin. You start with 3 guaranteed Portal features, but you can overcharge the meter for up to 7. During the bonus, All-Seeing Eyes cover the grid: 12 regular and 6 special. Open every regular eye and the 2x2 Yog-Sothoth Wild appears. Hit 4, 5, or 6 of the special multiplier eyes and it gets an x2, x3, or x4 multiplier on top.
I will say that actually reaching 48 charges in one go is not easy. The base game can drag a bit when cascades fizzle out early, and without a bonus buy option you are at the mercy of the meter. Still, when it does build momentum, the chain of Portal effects feels genuinely rewarding.

RTP, Volatility, and Max Win
Default RTP is 96.2%, which is a touch above average. Fair enough. But operators can also set it at 94.2%, 91.2%, 87.2%, or even 84.2%, so always worth checking what your casino runs. Medium volatility means you are not going to experience the brutal dry spells of a high-vol slot, but the wins do come in smaller chunks most of the time.
Max win is 5,000x, which is decent for this volatility level. Compared to the original Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness and its 2,000x cap, the sequel is a proper step up. That said, the max win hit rate is roughly 1 in a billion spins, so do not plan your retirement around it, mate.
