Buster's Bones Slot Overview
Buster's Bones is a Wild West themed Cluster Pays slot from NetEnt, released on 20 April 2023. I am looking at a 6x6 grid with an Avalanche mechanic where wins of 5 or more adjacent matching symbols trigger cascading removals. Bets range from 0.10 to 200, and the game runs on a medium-high volatility model with a default RTP of 96.07%.
From a math perspective, the standout mechanic here is the Buster character who collects bone symbols to generate wilds and build a win multiplier. The numbers tell you the max win sits at 973x the bet, which is frankly low for this volatility tier. That mismatch between risk profile and ceiling is the first thing I noticed.

Symbols and Paytable
Seven regular symbols fill the paytable. Four low-paying card suits (diamond, spade, club, heart) printed on wooden tiles pay 0.1x for a cluster of 5 and scale to 5x for 15 or more. Three high-paying dog symbols on green, blue, and purple frames share identical payouts: 0.3x for 5 in a cluster up to 15x for 15+. All three premiums have the same values, so the paytable structure is flat at the top.
Special symbols add more layers. Wilds substitute for all regular icons. Bone symbols carry values of +1, +2, +3, or +5 and feed into the Buster multiplier. Scatter symbols appear as saloon doors, and only 2 can land per spin. Buster himself is limited to 1 on the grid at any time and doubles as a wild with an attached multiplier.

Buster's Bones Slot Features
Core gameplay revolves around the Buster's Bones Feature. When Buster and at least 1 bone symbol appear on the same spin, Buster hops to each bone, turning it into a wild and absorbing its value as a multiplier. Once all bones are collected, Buster rests with the accumulated multiplier applied to any cluster win he participates in. He vanishes when no more wins form. From an EV standpoint, the multiplier can grow meaningfully, but the base game resets it every spin, which limits compounding potential outside of Free Spins.
Random Features can fire during any game mode. Up to 5 bones, a Buster symbol, or both can be tossed onto the grid in the base game. During free spins, up to 4 extra bones can fly in. I found the random trigger rate hard to quantify without published hit frequency data, but it adds variance to the base game session.
Free Spins require 2 scatters plus 1 Buster symbol, awarding 8 rounds. Critically, Buster stays on the reels for the entire bonus; his multiplier persists and grows with every bone collected across all spins. Landing 1 or 2 scatters during the round adds 1 or 3 extra spins. A Bonus Buy option at 60x the bet skips the trigger requirement. At 60x cost with a 973x ceiling, the buy-to-max ratio sits around 16.2:1, which is conservative compared to many modern slots where you see ratios above 50:1.

RTP, Volatility and Max Win
Default RTP is 96.07%, with operator-selectable lower tiers at 94.04% and 88.01%. Always confirm which version your casino runs. Volatility is classified as medium-high, and the max win is 973x. The provider page references 900 xBet, while multiple review sources cite 973x; I lean toward 973x as the more widely documented figure.
Here is where I'm not entirely sold on the math model. A 973x cap paired with medium-high volatility creates an odd profile. Most cluster pays slots in this volatility range offer at least 2,000x to 5,000x. The persistent multiplier in free spins suggests the model can build toward larger numbers, yet the ceiling stops it short. Players who chase high potential will likely find this disappointing.
